Building a Design System like Uber and Airbnb Bits and Pieces

uber design system

It also uses a SWIM protocol/Gossip Protocol which helps servers to knows the other servers’ responsibilities. Using this protocol w can easily add or remove one server in the ring. When we add a server the responsibilities are distributed to the newly added server and if we remove responsibilities add for other servers.

Creating workplace support for parents doesn’t have to break the time or money bank

This is a common question asked in system design interviews at top tech companies. There are many more common system design problems that your interviewers may ask you, such as designing TinyUrl. When new drivers enter their areas, we need to add a new customer/driver subscription dynamically. To do so, we track the area that a customer is watching.

Components, design systems, and tools are valuable only as long as people are familiar with them.

Bit even lets you import each component’s source code into consuming projects to make changes and update the component (and its dependents) without context switching. It’s an ever-growing and ever-evolving source of truth for the basic parts from which your entire product experience is made of. The ultimate goal of our design platform is to make every designer a little better at thinking of everything in terms of systems — grids, typography, language, motion, accessibility, and so on. This allows everyone to design together, to learn from a common source, and to have a shared understanding of product quality across the company.

Languages

The black and white color scheme also emphasizes this simplicity, and makes the logo easy to read and recognize. Uber has a Dispatch system (Dispatch optimization/DISCO) in its architecture to match supply with demand. This dispatch system uses mobile phones and it takes the responsibility to match the drivers with riders (supply to demand).

A variety of external factors like heavy traffic or road construction can impact travel time. After your trip starts, your app provides an ETA for when you should arrive at your destination. To repartition, we can create a cushion so that each grid grows beyond the limit before we decide to partition it.

I built a new Color Tokens & Semantics architecture from the ground up to scale to all Uber products including Rider, Driver, Eats, Freight, Jump, and more. This new architecture also opened the door to support light and dark mode on all apps. These are the top level categories, not including component specific ones. In our Styleguide app, we built an Accessibility testing tool that allowed us to test each component in different sizes, enunciate Voice Over/TalkBack, and test it in 5 different languages. Every component we built was tested against different text sizes, languages, and color contrast for light and dark modes. Personally, designing 77 Things has been a deeply rewarding experience.

So now we can easily filter the data which we need and also which belongs to that cell. That way we had a list of supplies available in all the cells and we can calculate ETA. Uber’s Base design system was created to promote a centralized library of reusable UI components for Designers and Engineers. A shared library often breaks this balance and slows down development, which in turn impairs the adoption of the library itself by the development team. It also makes very little sense to enforce a huge heavy library wherever a single component is needed (let’s not go into the tree-shaking debate).

A behind-the-scenes look at what went into the book

This time estimates how long nearby drivers should take to arrive at your pickup location. The popular smartphone app handles high traffic and complex data and systems. Uber enables customers to book affordable rides with drivers in their personal cars. The customers and drivers communicate using the Uber app. A component-library is basically a way to enforce a bunch of UI components across every app or app-part your team is building.

https://marketplace.uber.com/matching Matching riders and drivers is a core component of what makes Uber so successful…

The supply service is now trying to figure out the CABS which are near to the Rider from the servers by calculating the ETA values. And after calculating the ETA values supply server notify CABS through WEB SOCKET like “this Rider wants to go to this place could you please accept that? If the Driver accepts that request trip assigned to that particular Rider and Driver. Overall, this is our small effort to display how Uber’s basic design system works. Uber’s brand identity is characterized by a simple and modern aesthetic, with a focus on clean lines, bold typography, and a distinctive color palette.

NodeJS is the asynchronous and event-based framework that allows you to send and receive messages through WebSockets whenever you want. Assume Uber adds a new city to the system and now How can we handle the traffic for the newly added city? Now the newly added server’s responsibilities are unknown. MAPS ETA component(diagram 1) knows all the newly added servers sell IDs and based on that newly added cells distributed mong newly added servers.

Thinking on that, we use every single weight of the Uber move display and text fonts, in different body sizes. This is not the way we use Uber Move in our daily work, but this book is a great opportunity to show off the beautiful shape of our exclusive typeface. But ultimately, the master brand system helped us determine the right approach, and we felt it was inconsistent with our original thinking. Craft paper was not a material or texture that best represented the new Uber. This book would be the first artifact produced after the launch of our new visual identity system; it was imperative that it embodies the principles of the brand moving forward. The buttons are typically represented by a rectangular shape with rounded corners, which is a common design pattern in mobile app interfaces.

For example, a certain component (nav-bar, item etc) could have a relative size or margin compared the rest of the application. In different instances these variables might change, so it’s ok to leave some room to play. In today’s ecosystem, UI components can also function as UX components, combining the power to create both functional and visual consistency. It is the culmination of years of work; from unifying a centralized Design System team, to moving all platforms (web, iOS, and Android) to the same foundational elements. Base was the first DSL at Uber that made Accessibility and Inclusion a first class citizen.

Marketing specialists are not always familiar with design tools like Figma; they mostly need PNGs. We built a super-fast internal website that pulls images directly from the Figma file, with search powered by keywords added to the original component. This way, even people who are not familiar with design software can access the assets they need. In 2018, we created a web React library and released it to the public as the Base Web open-source project. We called it “Base” because it focused on the basics, such as typography, color, grid, and iconography, as well as essential elements like buttons, lists, and controls. Today, it has become the UI framework for all our products.

The blue and green colors are used sparingly, primarily as accent colors in certain applications. Uber Move was specifically designed for Uber by the design firm Wolff Olins, and it is characterized by its clean and streamlined appearance. The font features simple, rounded letterforms that are easy to read and highly legible at a variety of sizes. Earlier Uber was using the RDBMS PostgreSQL database but due to scalability issues uber switched to various databases. Uber uses a NoSQL database (schemaless) built on top of the MySQL database. Uber frequently offers new users credit for signing up or referring friends, as well as bonuses for drivers who complete a certain amount of trips within a given time period.

Apart from TinyCAD and (lacking a Mac, I couldn’t check Osmond) these programs are not free, at least not as in speech. They require registration with the manufacturer, one more way for big brother to watch us.It is a real shame that Circad (now Omniglyph) no longer has a usable demo version. In DOS and Win98 days, this was quasi-standard for hobby electronics, with wide support on the internet.

Altium 365Where the world designs electronics

If you’re working on a high speed/high frequency circuit board design, you can use the built-in impedance profiler to ensure impedance control in your board. The impedance profile tool uses an integrated electromagnetic field solver from Simberian to tailor the geometry of your traces to meet a target impedance value. If you’re new to the printed circuit design world, most modern PCB board design concepts will start with a 4-layer board on FR4, although you can define any number of layers you like in Altium Designer. You can also take advantage of the Materials Stackup Library; this lets you choose from a range of different laminates and unique materials for your printed circuit board.

Share Designs, Contribute, and Get Inspired by Others

Plus, as it’s technically part of Fusion 360, you have seamless integration with a vast array of advanced CAD, CAM, and CAE tools, making it a great all-in-one solution for many electrical engineering applications. The focus on ease of use is bettered by a library of free teaching resources and lessons that help students learn and understand fundamental concepts of PCB design and complete their first project. Unless otherwise stated, all text and images on this website are licensed under either a choice of theCreative Commons Attributions License, version 3.0 or later; or the General Public License version 3 or later.

DipTrace is license based with quite a few buying options, the cheapest of which is the DipTrace starter at $75, which include 300 pins and 2 signal layers. Students and educational institutions can get DipTrace Lite (capped at 500 pins and 2 signal layers) for free. While Upverter is an ideal starting point for students and beginners, it lacks the advanced functionality of other options. Experienced designers may find the offering a little too light for advanced projects and will be better off choosing a more robust suite such a KiCad. In a nod to accessibility, EasyEDA dodges the need for a beefy PC to create and render PCB designs with a browser-based option that works whether you’re on Windows, Mac, Linux, or even a smartphone.

Contrast in Graphic Design: The Complete Guide

contrast design

By combining geometric and organic shapes strategically, designers can create a dynamic interplay that captures the viewer’s attention and conveys specific emotions or concepts. Designers often use complementary colors to draw immediate attention to specific elements within a composition. This technique can be particularly effective for call-to-action buttons, headlines, or any element that needs to stand out. The poster uses a vibrant, abstract painting as its background, filled with bold, contrasting colors. The event details, including the date, time, and venue, are presented in clean, minimalist typography with a stark white background. And is usually a combination of all those types of contrasts that will create a good design.

Essential Design Trends, April 2024

Art Center has a very big—and increasing—menu of classes so it gets harder for a class to stand out. We wish a course in EGD was required, but so does every other sub-discipline. Visitor centers, libraries, corporate centers, and others are calling in the same “formerly entertainment” consultants. The top attraction design firm, BBC Imagination Arts, is doing the Lincoln Presidential Library with almost no conventional exhibits but very energized and immersive story telling. Natural greenery, soft-touch textiles, and woven accents are also easy ways to take a bit of the edge off of too-harsh contrast.

The Law of Contrast in Marketing

Designers and planning managers often use these pictograms to detail the flow of a process, an algorithm, and so on. What is so interesting about this is that in a flowchart, each function such as process, decision, or question has a specific shape assigned by it. Analogous color schemes are well-suited for designs where a soothing and cohesive appearance is desired, such as in interior design or branding for wellness products.

How can I learn more about using contrast in design?

Where do you think the phrases "learn more" or "here" would lead when clicked? Instead, aim to use more specific language to describe your links. Not only does this benefit those with disabilities, but it’s also, once again, great for SEO. Some states, like California, are imposing even stricter regulations.

What does contrast mean in graphic design?

This effective use of font size and style contrast not only enhances readability but also creates an engaging reading experience. Choosing the shapes of your design elements is one of the most foundational segments in your web design process — ideally coming to play when you create your wireframes. Every web creator strives for maximum, over-the-top engagement, which you can easily achievable by using visual variety in your design. The disparity between shapes also gives you the opportunity to create visual hierarchy, or to convey a profound distinction between message two elements. By varying the size, weight, style, or color of your type, you can create contrast that guides the reader’s attention, creates hierarchy, and adds visual interest. Just remember to keep readability in mind when using contrast in typography.

More From Artistry Found

contrast design

Hard shapes are sharp and crisp while soft shapes are more casual and laid-back, so this combo creates natural contrast. So it should come as no surprise that color is one of the most common ways to use contrast in design. An easy trick is to use two colors that are opposites on the color wheel. Which incorporates all components such as color, font, shapes, and image; it gives your brand a unique identity.

Contrast is a crucial aspect of visual hierarchy and an essential element in graphic design. It is a wonderful technique to draw the viewer’s attention while also organizing your elements in your graphic design by concentrating the eye on the most significant areas of it. Contrast in web and interface design is considered one of the five essential visual design principles.

contrast design

Utah State University offers a high-quality tool that you can use for free to test color combinations for appropriate levels of contrast. This is the latest in our lookbooks series, which provides visual inspiration from Dezeen's archive. Students are drawn to digital design and dynamic media, the entire electronic world—the mosquito and light bulb syndrome.

We asked the talented Amy Carman to offer her expert advice for creating a bold space that feels both inviting and dramatic. The idea of detail contrast is simple, but it takes constant practice and experience to get it right. Saturation, on the other hand, measures the vibrancy or intensity of a color. Many artists get confused by the idea of color value and how it differs from saturation. Value and saturation may appear to be very similar, but they’re very different.

Warm tones, such as reds, oranges, and yellows, can evoke feelings of energy and warmth, while cool tones, like blues and greens, convey calmness and tranquility. The contrast between these two categories of colors can generate a dynamic tension in a design. In any graphic design artwork that uses text, it will be crucial to focus the eye of the viewer in the main elements you want them to read first.

After color, if there is one characteristic that stands out in any design, it is size. Our brain is very visual, and it can interpret changes in sizes and shapes before it can even read text. Children too can understand big/small in the developmental years itself.

17 Herb Garden Ideas to Make Your Secret Cottage Dreams Come True

“In the height of summer, you’d need to water at least once and probably twice a day in the morning and the evening, before the sun's come up and after it’s gone down. Do it at the coolest time otherwise it just will completely evaporate as you’re watering,” Isabelle added. “Another plant that grows happily in wind is samphire, which grows on beaches. You can grow it in a pot, you just need to add sea salt when you water it to recreate its natural environment. If it is very windy try to create as much shelter as you can,” advises Alex.

Large Backyard Deck

Make your backyard the place to be by turning it into a crowd-pleasing entertainment area. We love an outdoor kitchen or poolside outdoor bar, but if your guests are more on the active side, try incorporating a sports feature like a bocce ball or basketball court. Enjoy the fruits of your labor — literally — by planting a garden full of your favorite fruits and vegetables. Berries, carrots, onions and zucchini are among some of the easiest fruits and vegetables to grow, but feel free to try whatever edible plants you love most — it's your garden after all.

Choose Tall Plants for a Small Space

Most things you eat the leaves of will be relatively happy in shade. The things that won't like growing shade are things that produce fruit because they need sun in order to create sugar for the fruit. Shade wouldn’t be so good for strawberries and tomatoes,” advised Alex.

Grow Your Own Food

For a backyard vegetable garden, opt for easy-to-grow vegetables such as tomatoes, lettuce, radishes, and peppers. These plants not only provide fresh produce but also thrive in a variety of climates and can adapt to different spaces. They’re also easy to move, making them perfect for adjusting to changing sunlight patterns. It involves the incorporation of non-living materials into the landscape, such as paths, patios, and walls to enhance your outdoor living experience.

This wall holds back soil and prevents soil erosion and potential damage to your home. There are plenty of available designs that fit in wonderfully with the atmosphere you’re creating with your backyard landscaping. Adding more landscaping elements to your yard may not necessarily be the answer. For some, more furniture, more plants and flowers, more bird feeders, and more of anything else can make a yard feel cluttered. You also need to consider the time and care it takes to maintain everything you add to your backyard living space. Find calm and contentment by taking away the extra stuff, and highlighting your yard’s simple, natural beauty.

Tree ferns of various sizes and glossy, informal mounds of pittosporum combine to form a stunning green tapestry. For example, if you desperately want a garden but don't have enough space on the ground, try a vertical garden instead. Trellises, arbors and fences can provide the support needed for flowering vines, grapes, tomatoes, gourds and other plants to thrive.

Stunning Backyard Ideas That Fit Every Kind of Space

Raised beds are particularly useful for avoiding soil compaction, which is critical for plant health. Enhance your gardening success with techniques that maximize your space and efficiency. For visual entertainment, consider a weatherproof outdoor TV or projector screen.

Additionally, solar light may have a longer lifespan than traditional bulbs, leading to reduced waste. Where possible, though, keep lights off entirely to support local wildlife. Composting is the practice of allowing organic waste, like food and yard scraps, to decompose rather than throwing it in the trash. "The mixture that results from this process is called compost and it can be used as fertilizer when gardening," says Brooks.

With the addition of a pergola, create a shady spot to relax, complete with lounge chairs and a table for snacks and cocktails for the ultimate poolside experience. We recommend focusing on native plants (plants that are native to your environment) for a lower maintenance lawn. We love the sustainability aspect of native plants, but because they’re most likely to survive in your climate, they’re also the best option for those lacking a green thumb.

Don’t fret if you think that a low-maintenance yard means fewer or no plants and flowers. Selecting a variety of native plants, trees, and shrubs may require less water and upkeep. Likewise, perennials—plants that come back year after year—provide fragrance and color without the physical labor annuals require. Mulching flower beds annually is another hack that prevents weeds and unnecessary labor. We’ve all heard the saying “Work smarter, not harder,” and the same adage should be applied to your landscaping design. Sure, some people find that spending a Saturday afternoon mowing their lawn or spending hours on their hands and knees weeding the garden beds is rewarding.

Use an outdoor rug to freshen up a tired-looking or cracked cement floor, bring attention to an overlooked space or garden feature, or add a pop of color near an all-too-green hedge. The addition of outdoor lighting to your backyard extends its use into the night and considerably ups its cozy factor. In the heat of summer, evening is often the best time to relax outside. Use the keep-it-simple mantra for landscaping on slopes or hillsides, too.

When decorating, interior designers encourage drawing inspiration from your living or bedroom spaces and infusing that style to the outdoor space for a continuous thread. Carry the aesthetic throughout the entire indoor-outdoor concept when choosing flooring, outdoor furniture, and greenery. If you’ve got a small space, it’s all the more reason to invest in comfortable and weather-resistant furniture. All space—no matter how tiny—offers possibility, and this way, you’ll be more inclined to take advantage of what you have. Opt for vibrant throw pillows or a show-stopping coffee table to make your space feel more like an outdoor living room than an afterthought. Designate a secluded area within your backyard as your sanctuary, and then isolate it using outdoor curtains, screens, plants, or even...a fence.

You can also add a sandy area with a fire pit and chairs or create a space for your kids to play. Artificial grass is another one of our favorite alternatives to real grass, or if you prefer to keep things natural, you can opt for a native ground cover, such as clovers, creeping thyme or moss. Create more usable space for you and your family with an accessory dwelling unit in your backyard. These secondary buildings can be used for a wide range of things, such as an extra living room, a gym, an office or an in-law suite.

The chocolate sauce can be homemade, or you can use a store-bought version instead. I’ve listed the recipe for the chocolate sauce a bit further down in the article. It’s also perfect for the days when it’s cooling down quite a bit. You can serve it with a straw so that you can stir the whipped cream and chocolate sauce through the rest of the drink. It’s also how I come across recipes I wouldn’t have thought to put into a search field. This moka pot was made in Italy, where authentic coffee comes from. It's easy to sit on the stovetop and you'll make a rich and sweet espresso.

I like to make my espresso coffee with an AeroPress or Moka pot. You can also use an espresso machine if you have one at home. Even though I have hundreds of cookbooks — so many that I have stacks on every step up the staircase in my front hall — I frequently find myself online looking for recipe ideas or basic cooking information. If you prefer using brewed coffee instead of espresso, use 1/4 cup (0.06 l) of brewed coffee. Using your Nespresso or Keurig machine will also work for this recipe. I prefer using a strong coffee pod, so the mocha isn’t overly sweet.

If you don’t like the taste of espresso coffee, strong-brewed coffee will work fine too. Choose a coffee brewer you like to use most and substitute the amount of espresso coffee for freshly brewed coffee. The whipped cream makes the mocha so much better, and I love the taste of it. You can make vanilla-flavored whipped cream using this recipe if you’re interested.

Polly Woodruff, Head of Product at Divine Chocolate says that it's easy to spot top-quality chocolate. She says 'the secret is to look for a glossy, silky sheen, a clean snap, and smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Real cocoa butter should melt quickly in your mouth. If you start with one of the best espresso machines or moka pots, you're in a good place. Throw in some top quality chocolate, as recommended by chocolatiers, and you're good to go.

They can be bitter or sweet with earthy and nutty notes. They're creamy and caffeinated, so when you brew them together, you can make a pretty special drink. If you’re looking for a more filling and nutritious option, you could use your hot chocolate powder as a variation on the coffee smoothie trend. You need to start with the best quality coffee and chocolate you can find. If you buy organic, whole beans, well-suited to your flavor preferences, you shouldn't have a problem.

She says it’s great on pasta or anything else you’d use with pesto. The fact that this transcendental state of happiness sounds like mocha is no coincidence. If you try one in a café, it will probably taste too sweet.

Moka pots are traditionally stovetop, but if you travel a lot, this might be a better option. Users say it's easy to use and that the coffee flavor is still great. To start, warm up your stainless steel milk jug by filling it with hot water and then emptying it. Then, I place a handful (0.7 oz) of good quality dark chocolate into the warm jug. I love chocolate as much as the next person, if not more. As a barista and self-confessed choc-oholic, I think my thoughts on mochas are easy to guess. How to Make a Mocha at Home: Easy Recipe to Try in 2024

mocha house

I recently did a coffee testing session with the founder of Artisan Coffee Co, Ashley Palmer Watts. Ashley worked with chocolatiers to create chocolate specific to each different type of coffee that he brews. He told me, 'even people who don't think they can taste different notes in coffee can find chocolate really helpful. Chocolate will amplify the flavors of your favorite bean. Once you've paired these two together, you won't go back'.

Are mochas good for me?

One of its many talents is pulling a good shot of coffee (and it froths milk well too). Mochas, also known as mochaccinos, combine espresso, steamed milk, and chocolate to create an indulgent drink that I refer to as a 'cocoa charmer'. If you don't like coffee, a mocha is one of the best places for you to start.

How to make homemade chocolate sauce

When it’s hot outside and you still want a caffeine fix, I would recommend making some coffee or hot chocolate ice cubes. If you add these to your brew you can make an iced mocha. I think my obsession with these is bordering on a problem. I've recently started making cold brew coffee at home and using cold brew concentrate.

Notes

The best way to lower the calories in this drink is by using lower-fat milk or a plant-based alternative. You can choose to use any milk or milk alternative for this recipe. I’ve used whole milk because I like the fuller flavor it gives me. Elizabeth Poett said her go-to recipe from her “Ranch to Table” book is blueberry yogurt pancakes. When she showed off the pristine page, it looked like it was only missing a few batter splotches to break in the book.

If the world has gone digital, why do so many of us still want cookbooks?

For your convenience, reservations can be made in advance here. As you can see, whole milk makes up for a good amount of the total calories. You can use any milk you like the most for this recipe.

Why a vegan restaurant will now serve meat

However, if you make it at home, you can adjust your flavors for a mind-blowing mocha experience. Combining the naturally complex flavors of coffee and chocolate is an art, here's how to perfect it. If you love the taste of chocolate, then you’ll love the recipes I’ve listed below. Below, you can find even more mocha-flavored coffees. This mocha coffee is one of my favorite drinks to make in the early morning.

mocha house

When I was a barista, I experimented with a range of mocha recipes. I tried cocoa powder, pure chocolate, fresh coffee, drip coffee, instant coffee, and everything in-between. It's really easy to make an tasty mocha and with a few elevated extras, you can make a mocha that will change your coffee order – if it isn't a mocha already.

I've since melted them into my coffees to make a mocha and they're the perfect pairing. Ashley is right about this – and so many other things. These alternatives have fewer calories than whole milk, which is excellent. You can also leave out the whipped cream if you want to lower your caloric intake. If you prefer a slightly sweet mocha, then a single shot will work fine.

You just have to heat the milk for this recipe, but there’s no need to foam it. That’s why using a stove to heat your milk will work just as well. You can choose to place a small saucepan with the milk on the stove and scald it while continuously stirring with a whisk or using a steaming wand instead. The best thing about this recipe is that it’s made with ingredients you might already have at home.

However, if you choose the right blend for your coffee, it can perfectly complement the notes of your coffee, adding flavor and sweetness. Making chocolate sauce at home has never been easier. I’ve got a recipe for you that uses equal parts white granulated sugar, water, and cocoa powder. The Barista Pro might do more than you need it to for simple hot chocolates and mochas, but it's a worthy investment.

Mocha is a delicious blend of espresso, steamed milk, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. The whipped cream is optional in this recipe but will add a fuller mouthfeel to your mocha. Lots of baristas and chefs will put their own spin on mochas. There are some obvious variations, such as the type of chocolate or cocoa powder that you use. I’ve tried mint chocolate (very good), salted chocolate (even better), and orange chocolate (my personal favourite).

If you want more coffee flavor in your mocha, it’s best to add another espresso shot. This will highlight the flavors of coffee a bit more without losing the signature mocha flavor. You can use espresso coffee or brewed coffee made with a coffee brewer you like most for this mocha recipe. Once you're chocolate is in the jug, pour over one cup of milk and use a good quality milk frother or steam wand to froth your milk. If you’re doing this by hand, you need to make sure that your milk is moving in a vortex. The warm milk will melt the chocolate at the bottom of the jug until you have a frothy, glossy, hot chocolate.

Is this your company?

Whether it’s a problem with accommodations, food quality, service, or any other aspect of your trip, it’s important to know how to file a complaint effectively. Let's face it, sometimes unforeseen things happen; bad weather, delayed flights and even cancellations. If your flight is changed or a weather-related delay leaves you stuck while you're traveling to one of our Freestyle Cruises®, don't panic. The first thing you should do is immediately advise an airline representative at the airport that you are a guest of Norwegian Cruise Line, and you are on your way to join our cruise ship.

Really bad reviews on Getaway

It’s important to remember that not all complaints will have the same outcome, but being assertive and organized will help you present your case effectively. If you want to partake in specialty dining reservations, Wi-Fi, Norwegian cruise excursions or upgraded beverage packages, you'll have to pay fees (sometimes bundled for greater savings). This may influence which products we review and write about (and where those products appear on the site), but it in no way affects our recommendations or advice, which are grounded in thousands of hours of research. Our partners cannot pay us to guarantee favorable reviews of their products or services.

Very disappointed that 2 ports of call on our forthcoming cruise have been cancelled for sea days due to "Port Congestion" - really? Should never have been advertised if berths were not secured in advance. Too late to cancel without losing a significant deposit.

Made numerous calls but NCL wouldn't acknowledge their mistake. I would've cancelled if it weren't for the other people I had recruited to come. I have 5 months until the sailing and greatly regret booking again with NCL and also recruiting new cruisers to book with them. Their crap defies common decency so look elsewhere and save yourself a headache.

Carnival Cruises

The club balcony suite needed vacuuming as there was significant amount of debris on the carpeting and under the bed (where the suitcases were stored). When in port the ship tilted to the rear so if the shower was used it rose above the lip and flooded the bathroom. The sliding closet door fell off during the night. No information regarding the ship was present in the room and the newsletter was predominately a list of activities and service contacts with inundation of leaflets pushing purchasing options.

Seabourn

With 200 dollars more, we can buy much better two round-trip flights with more flexibility. What made it even worse was that the air promotion eliminated us from free upgrade of stateroom. We ended up with paying 2 times more than the current cost of the cruise resulting from making reservation 6 months in advance. I would suggest that you should not book in advance and not use their air promotion.

At the time of our review, NCL had a promotion in place offering free airfare for the second guest on the booking, which could be a pretty significant savings depending on your departure port. The air promotion Norwegian offered is worthless. They put us on indirect flights which take many more hours than direct flights. Also, they can only book flights with 2 days before and after the cruise departure and arrival.

I sent a letter addressed to the CEO, no response either. Sent a follow up letter to the agent and the CEO once again. The agent informed me that he sent the bonus to one of the people in my group and suggested that I get it from him. I asked that he alert the passengers and refund me as I was the Group Leader and signed the contract.

And, when we went to reach out for help via live chat, it took a long time to connect with an agent - and even when we did, the chat was super-slow and we waited over 10 minutes to get an answer to our one question. But, we give Norwegian somewhat of a downgrade for its safety record. The cruise line has had several incidents in recent years, including a fire on one of its ships in 2019 and a mechanical issue on another ship in 2018.
